SUGAR SKULLS In Sugar Skulls I gave the audience a humorous cooking lesson on the traditional form of making sugar skulls for All Saints Day. I brought to this tradition the making of them to remember those who were assassinated or disappeared in Latin America. But when I attempted to make a sugar skull in rememberance my uncle (who had a been a student marty, assassinated in 1984) I broke down in front of the audience and could not bring myself to stop crying for nearly an hour. The audience tried to make me stop crying, people came up and reasoned with me or shared their own story. The performance, which had started lighthearted, was awkward and uneasy by the end.
